The data capture_DOUBLE TROUBLED series involves creating a double portrait sketch using my left and right hands simultaneously. The portraits are painted live via online video chat.

I have chosen the video chat interface for this series as I enjoy using this platform to observe who I have invited to ‘sit’ for me while they work. Through this interface I can observe how they work as if I am looking through their work at them. This forms an interesting subject of studying how we focus our attention while engaging in a digital and virtual space of the computer.

I am interested in using the online video chat platform formally due to the ‘painterly’ quality of the varying digital resolution of the connection and the ‘doubling’ that occurs with interface. By doubling I mean that you watch the person you are connecting to and yourself mirrored in a smaller window.

Through creating an ambidextrous portrait I generate a further doubling and hope to explore the differences between my left/right brain perception.
